Finally on the way...or not...

Well after an extremely hectic week end of running around trying to get the last of the requirements (and finish the odd work bit!) it was off to the airport for an exciting 20+hrs of the hospitality of South African Airways. Well actually Qantas... turns out that the flight was a code share and hence my Star Alliance member ship was worth... well not very much at all actually.

As it turned out the plane was not full and I managed to have a spare seat beside me to give me so more room. With Video on demand the subsequent 14hrs to Johannesber flew by (be it very slowly). It's interesting seeing the city from the plane and from the airport it comes across as neat and cleans and well run, but from what I've heard this is unfortunately not the reality.

The subsequent flight to Accra in Ghana was as interesting as another 6hr flight can be coming off another transcontinental (riveting!) But that is when the fun started, it turns out that none of the luggage from the Sydney flight actually made it onto the Accra flight (apparently 2.5 hrs is not enough for the transfer luggage at JoBerg Airport) and hence none of the people on the Sydney flight had any luggage. And of course the flight from JoBerg is only Monday, Wednesday & Friday nights so I have been living in the same clothes since Sunday (35 degrees and 70-80% humidity -really nice!!) I did try to buy some shirts but the local T-shirts are either too small or made from very stiff linen that feels sand paper (need washing a few times to sofen them up) So back to my own shirt (good thing blogs don't have smello-vision)
The main problem is that the tour started today so the Truck has left without me, I have to go to the Airport tonight to try to pick up my luggage and tomorrow will need to try to catch up the trip via local transport and a good deal of luck!. The big pity is that today they are going to the big slave forts from the 18th century which are the primary attraction in this area.
Oh well these things happen.
